Maisie Camptell Napaltjarri was born in May 1958 near Haasts Bluff, about 300kms (190 miles) NW of Alice Springs. Her first teacher was Geoffrey Bardon, the school teacher who started the Papunya painting movement in the 1970s,a fact that she remains proud of today. Maisie started painting in the early 1990s and, while clearly influenced by her husband Barney Campbell Tjakamarra, she has developed her own form of expression. Her paintings represent stories from her father's country, the bush onion, the bush tomato and women's stories which still take place in the area between Kintore and Kiwirrkurra.
