Colleen Wallace was born c.1970 and comes from a strong family tradition of Eastern Arrernte painters. Colleen's family country is around Bushy Park, NE of Alice Springs and she currently lives in the Utopia region with her husband Colin Bird (Lindsay Bird's nephew) and children (3 sons and 1 daughter). Colleen was brought up by Kathleen Wallace, her stepmother, as her father died when she was 3 years old, in Santa Teresa.

Colleen is a self taught artist and has been painting since 1990. Colleen's grandfather, Kenny Tilmouth Panangka has given her the permission to paint Yam Dreaming. Her other Themes and Dreamings are bush plum, bush foods, body paint, mother's and husband's country, bush yam. Colleen's artwork is very precise. She combines warm earthy shades with vibrant colours done in precise neat brush and dot strokes. Recently Colleen has incorporated ceremonial body paint design in striking black and white.
