Rosie comes from a large extended family of artists. Her sister Lena Pwerle is also a painter and senior custodian of Lyentye country. Her brother Louie, who is now deceased, was also a talented painter and sculptor. Rosie has two daughters, Julie Pengarte and Amy Napangardi, both of whom are artists. Rosie still lives in the Utopia region.

Initially Rosie worked in the medium of batik along with over eighty other women from the Utopia Region in Central Australia. Her work in batik is featured in "Utopia - A Picture Story, the Robert Holmes a Court Collection".

Rosie gets her dreamings from her father's country, Lyente. These include Bush Plum, body paint (awelye) and Lyente country.
